Binge Reading - Mentors

Do you build time for reflection?

I highly recommend everyone have a set of mentors they use to influence their thinking, to provide thought leadership, and to help you eliminate limiting beliefs.

I have a group of mentors that I call my personal board of directors. They inspire me and keep me in check. Mine not only include successful business leaders who I personally know but a close friend who is comfortable being honest, and a peer who is seeing the world at my level.

But mentors can be more than someone you know, and meet with. They can be people you admire and follow through other forms of contact like listening to their podcasts, or reading their books.

I encourage you to learn about things that you have no experience in. And that’s a growth mindset!

Here are my 5 faves this week:

#1 Obstacle is the Way – Ryan Holiday

Stoics focus on the things they can control, let go of everything else, and turn every new obstacle into an opportunity to get better.

#2 Principles – Ray Dalio

Dalio lays out the most effective ways for individuals and organizations to make decisions, approach challenges, and build strong teams.

#3 Tribe of Mentors – Tim Ferris

Short profiles can help you answer life's most challenging questions, achieve extraordinary results, and transform your life.

#4 Imagine it Forward – Beth Comstock

Employees have to move ahead without knowing the answers. Learn how to grapple with the challenges to change we face every day.

#5 Daring Greatly – Brene Brown

How the courage to be vulnerable transforms the way you lead. This book dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and argues that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage.
